Here's your 2024 guide to the Milwaukee-area beer gardens (2024)

The Milwaukee area actually has five seasons: Longgg winter, wet spring, way-too-short summer, stunning fall — and beer garden.

A couple local beer gardens have already made their season debut, some have their opening dates set and others still are working out their deets.

From the uber-popular (and already open) South Shore Terrace to The Traveling Beer Garden Tour, here's your 2024 beer gardens guide:

Milwaukee County

Traveling Beer Garden Tour

WHAT TO EXPECT: The Traveling Beer Garden Tour includes eight Milwaukee County park stops from mid-May through the beginning of September, including a new one: Kops Park. This is the 11th season Milwaukee County Parks and Sprecher Brewing Co. have partnered to put it on.

"This unique tradition in our community brings people together, generates revenue for County operations, and fosters positive activity in our Milwaukee County Parks," Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said in a statement.

Expect a rotating selection of Sprecher craft beer on tap, as well as options from City Lights, Lakefront and Eagle Park breweries. There will also be cider, gluten-free offerings and non-alcoholic beverages, including Sprecher soda, the beer gardens' website said. Food offerings will include brats, hot dogs, Bavarian pretzels, nachos and chips. Plus, root beer floats.

South Shore Terrace Kitchen and Beer Garden, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT:At the uber-popular South Shore Terrace Kitchen and Beer Garden, guests can expect views of Lake Michigan and the city's skyline, gas fire pits and lakefront seating, according to a news release.

The beer garden has 20 tap beer lines with an array of offerings, including from Miller, Leinenkugel's, Blue Moon Brewing Co., Terrapin Beer Co., Hop Valley Brewing Company and Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma S.A. de C.V., per the beer garden's website. Other alcoholic drink optionsinclude Simply Spiked in a variety of flavors, hard cider, a michelada, a beer'mosa and "Park's Punch." Non-alcoholic beverage optionsinclude non-alcoholic Blue Moon, Sprecher root beer, gourmet sodas, Pepsi products, Bubly sparkling water and bottled water.

The food menuincludes shareables such as hand-breaded Clock Shadow Creamery cheese curds, sidewinder fries and Milwaukee Pretzel Co. soft pretzels; sandwiches like the Buffalo & Bleu Burger and Milwaukee Melt; bratwurst and Polish sausage; salads; a Friday fish fry; and desserts. There's also a kids menu.

Proceeds from both the bar and kitchen support future park projects, according to the release.

DATES AND HOURS:Opened for the season April 4. Its hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The beer gardencan be reservedfor private events on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Whitnall Beer Garden, Greendale

WHAT TO EXPECT:Whitnall Beer Garden will feature 24 craft beer handles with brews from several local breweries, according to a Milwaukee County Parks news release. There will again be food from Gift of Wings, including fish fry dinners Wednesdays and Fridays, and Taco Tuesdays. Pig roasts will be held June 9 and 16, July 7 and Aug. 18. There will be live music from local musicians Friday nights, Saturday afternoons and during each pig roast.

A ceremony and first pour will be held at 5 p.m. May 1 to celebrate the season opening. Following the conclusion of the ceremony, free beer and root beer will be served while supplies last, the release said.

Juneau Beer Garden, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT:Last year, the Juneau Beer Garden became one of the county's permanent, seasonalbeergardens after its success on the Traveling Beer Garden Tour. The beer garden is back again this year. It features brews on tap and packaged beers, hard seltzer and Arizona Hard Tea, as well as N/A beverages. Food options include brats, hotdogs and Bavarian pretzels. Live music, sponsored by Third Space Brewing, is held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The Vine Humboldt, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT: The Vine Humboldt — located at a historic farmhouse in Bay View's Humboldt Park — features craft brews, hard sodas, cider and NA beverages, according to its website.The park is also home to the popular Chill on the Hill and Jazz at The Vine.

LOCATION:Humboldt Park, 3000 S. Howell Ave., Milwaukee

DATES AND HOURS: Open for the season. 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. holidays.

Estabrook Beer Garden, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT:The Estabrook Beer Garden, modeled after Munich beer gardens, serves Hofbräuhaus and local craft beers, wine, cider, hard seltzer, draft root beer and Pepsi products, according to its website. "Beer garden basics" such asbratwurst, hot dogs and giant fresh-baked pretzels are also available. Note: The beer garden is cashless.

The beer garden's opening weekend will be full of festivities.

On April 26, live music from Twin Lakes Trio starts at 5:30 p.m. The beer garden's grand opening will be at 6 p.m. with a HB Original Lager keg tapping. There will be free beer until 7 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. registration opens for the Masskrugstemmen (steinholding contest), which will be held at 7:30 p.m.

On April 27, the beer garden opens at 11 a.m. Bigger Boat will be performing at noon. There will be a keg tapping of Third Space Happy Place at 1 p.m. and attendees can enter to win free beer for a year from Third Space. The drawing will take place at 3:30 p.m. A bratwurst-eating team relay will be at 3 p.m. Registration for that starts at 2 p.m., and is limited to eight four-person teams. Live music from Squeezettes! will start at 4 p.m. Masskrugstemmen registration opens at 5 p.m., with the contest starting at 6 p.m.

On April 28, the beer garden opens at 11 a.m. There will be $10 Maibock liters all day. Erich von Klassen will be performing at 11:30 a.m. There will be a keg tapping of 2024 Hofbräu Maibock Anstich at noon. Masskrugstemmen registration opens at 2 p.m. with the contest beginning at 3 p.m.

Park amenities include trails, playgrounds, a disc golf course, a dog park, soccer fields and a riverwalk.

DATES AND HOURS: The season grand opening is scheduled for April 26. After opening weekend, the beer garden will open at noon daily, weather permitting. With Estabrook Park closing at 10 p.m., last call for the beer garden will be at 9 p.m.

Hubbard Park Beer Garden, Shorewood

WHAT TO EXPECT:The Hubbard Park Beer Garden, which is open year-round, serves German and domestic craft beers, wine, specialty drinks and soft drinks.Food options include Usinger's sausages, a giant pretzel and a Friday fish fry.Private cabanas are available to rent and feature beer garden offerings, the Friday fish fry and special packages. The Lodge offers fish fry seating as well, plus a Sunday lumberjack buffet brunch.

The Beer Garden in Deer District, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT:The Beer Garden,located in Deer District,features a 40-foot screen to watch sporting events, like Bucks playoff games. The Tap Room featuresdomestic and craft beers, seltzers, ciders and more, per its website. Food can be ordered from The MECCA Sports Bar & Grill and The Cluckery.

The Beer Garden will be hosting a "Summer Concert Series," presented by Deer District BID 53. All concerts are free and open to the public. They take place from 6-9 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Here's the schedule:

Kegel's Inn Beer Garden, West Allis

WHAT TO EXPECT:The Kegel's Inn Beer Garden, open year-round, features authentic German food, live music and outdoor seating. Most of that seating is self-serve, but some tables can be reserved atexploretock.com/kegelsinn.

Also worth noting, Kegel's is celebrating its 100th anniversary with more than 100 events (which can be found here) and a line up of newKegelBrau prohibition-themed beer releases, according to owner JulianKegel.

War Memorial Beer Garden, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT:The War Memorial Beer Garden, operated by Kegel's Inn, will have a walk-up shipping container bar. It'll serve up German beers, Nitro Old Fashioneds, Nitro Cold Brew Coffee, gluten-free options, soft drinks and water, according to its website. Food offerings will include appetizers, like huge pretzels; loaded brats; and desserts. Beer garden tables are first-come, first-served, but there is also a lot of green space. On-site parking costs $8 per vehicle, and parking stubs can be redeemed for one free half-liter beer at the beer truck. Dogs are welcome. There will also be a variety of live music from 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Proceeds benefit the War Memorial Center.

LOCATION:The War Memorial Center,adjacent to the Milwaukee Art Museum, is at750 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive. The beer garden will be held in the center's north parking lot.

DATES AND HOURS:Opening for the season on May 24. Its hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. While typically closed on Mondays, the beer garden will be open on Memorial Day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Franklin Beer Garden at Croatian Park, Franklin

WHAT TO EXPECT: TheFranklinBeer Garden at Croatian Park offers a beer selection featuring Lakefront Brewery products and Croatian imports. There's also afull-bar with wine, mixed drinks, Croatian Cordials, hard seltzer and nonalcoholic beverages. Every week, the beer garden hosts "the Happiest of Happy Hours" from 5 to 6 p.m. Local food vendorAmerican European Foods will be serving up a selection of grilled items, including Croatian Ćevapčići, a twist on classic nachos and more. There will also be a rotation of food trucks, including Rose Mob, Piña Mexican Eats, and Big City BBQ (dates listedhere). The beer garden, located on 30 acres, offers covered and uncovered tables, and is dog-friendly. There's a kids' playground area, bocce ball courts, live music and more. It’s also expected to have its pavilion construction project completed at the end of 2024 for "the ultimate outdoor Beer Garden experience," according to organizers.

The Third Ward Beer Garden, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT: The Third Ward Beer Garden will feature a seasonal menu of beer, wine and ready-to-drink co*cktails. Expect live music Thursdays through Sundays. There will also be games like cornhole and outdoor Jenga.

The beer garden's grand opening will be at 5 p.m. April 19 with the tapping of its first keg of the season — Explorium Brewpub's Copper Lager, which will be free until the keg runs out.

The Landing at Hoyt Park, Wauwatosa

WHAT TO EXPECT:TheLandingatHoytPark's beer garden features draft and packaged beer options; red, white and sparkling wine; and fountain drinks. Food offerings include pizza, pretzels, brats, popcorn and more. Here's a calendar of when food trucks, trivia and live music will also be on site.

Pop-up Beer Gardens at Drexel Town Square, Oak Creek

WHAT TO EXPECT:The Pop-up Beer Gardens at Oak Creek's Drexel Town Square will feature a variety of craft brews, food, theme nights, live music, games and kids activities, according to its webpage. An Oak Creek Idol Showcase will take place during the pop-ups as well (Here's when that's happening and how it'll work). New this year: A beer Olympics competition, a 50's sock hop night, a country night and more.

Live music runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., with the exception of June 14, when it goes from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Here's the schedule:

1840 Brewing Company's Beer Garden Road Show at Liberty Heights Park, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT: Bay View-based 1840 Brewing Company, an urban farmhouse brewery, is presenting The Beer Garden Road Show at Liberty Heights Park, according to its Facebook page. Expect beer, Sprecher sodas and water. While there is some picnic table seating, attendees can also bring their own chairs or picnic blankets. Entertainment will include live music and yard games with the Liberty Heights Park Neighborhood Association.

The Tap Yard, Milwaukee

WHAT TO EXPECT:The Tap Yard - Milwaukee, located along the Milwaukee River, features 18 craft drafts, wine, hard seltzers and canned co*cktails, according to its Facebook. For food, there's Pop's Kettle Corn, Carrie’s Crispies, Heavenly Roasted Nuts, Cranky Al's pizza and Milwaukee Bavarian beast pretzels with beer cheese. Games include giant Jenga, big Connect Four, bags and more. On select days, the beer garden hosts events, like food trucks, trivia, live music, taco fest, grilled cheese fest, paint nights, music bingo and more. This is a dog-friendly location, however, they must be on 6-foot leashes.

Waukesha County

Raised Grain Brewing Co. & Waukesha County Parks’ Pop-Up Beer Gardens

WHAT TO EXPECT:RaisedGrainBrewing Co. and Waukesha County Parks are partnering for Pop-Up Beer Gardens once again, according to the brewing company's website. The pop-ups will feature a lineup of beers, including Naked Threesome IPA, Summer Vice Hefeweizen, Quick Release Amber Lager and some rotating favorites. Gluten-removed Diamond Hard Seltzer will also be available in multiple flavors. Local food trucks, such as Tramper's Oak Fired Pizza, will be at the beer gardens as well.

Attendees can expect yard games, music, family attractions and other events, the website said. Some parks have swimming access and playgrounds. The Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium in Retzer’s Environmental Learning Center will have laser light music shows each night of the final weekend

Note: A daily park entrance permit or annual park membership is required for all vehicles entering a fee-based park. Guests can purchase permits online at www.waukeshacounty.gov/parkentry. No entry fee is required at Retzer Nature Center.

The Elm Grove Beer Garden presented by Third Space Brewing, Elm Grove

WHAT TO EXPECT: The Elm GroveBeerGarden, presented by Third Space Brewing, will kick off the season serving Happy Place, Smile, Heavenly Haze, Frog Weiss, Pretty Good, Pils, Upward Spiral and Lavender Lemonade. There will also be rotating seasonal and specialty options. Food trucks will be on-site most Fridays and Saturdays. Expect trivia on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., and live music from 6 to 8 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. There will also be a Sunday volleyball league (registration required).

Depot Beer Garden at Old Falls Village Park, Menomonee Falls

WHAT TO EXPECT: The Menomonee Falls Historical Society's Depot Beer Garden at Old Falls Village Park features a rotation of six craft beers on tap, canned classic beers, ciders, seltzers, soda and water. The last beer pour of a keg wins a coveted Keg Killer T-shirt. The Depot Grill will be serving up hot dogs, burgers, pizza, pretzels, nachos and homemade meats from Wisconsin Meats. There will also be food trucks for special events. Entertainment includes nightly live music, a large selection of board games and corn hole. Special events on select dates include the Historical Society's Civil War Encampment, a classic car show and trivia. When events aren't taking place, tours of historic buildings will be offered. The beer garden is dog friendly.

LOCATION: Menomonee Falls'Old Falls Village Park, N96W15791 County Line Road

DATES AND HOURS: Open most Saturdays, and select Fridays and Sundays for special events from May 18 through Sept. 28. The beer garden's hours are typically 3 to 9 p.m. But, special events oftentimes mean special hours. So, be sure to check here for the full schedule of dates, hours and events. The Depot Grill serves up food from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Old Falls Biergarten at Old Falls Village Park, Menomonee Falls

The Old Falls Biergarten, run by Friends of Old Falls Village Park, also calls Old Falls Village Park home. It serves up craft brews, hard sodas and N/A beverages. Many of the biergartens will include live music, food, and on select Fridays, fish frys. The park includes open grass areas, trails, The Depot Stage and historical buildings. June 15's biergarten will be put on in connection to the Falls' World War II Days at the park, which will include a USO-themed concert and dance at 6 p.m. with a swing band and reenactors dressed in 1940s-style clothing.

WHAT TO EXPECT:the baaree at the cheel combines aspects of a traditional German beer garden with elements of a community garden.According to its website, drink offerings include craft co*cktails, draughts, wine, NA beverages and more. The food menu lists handhelds, including Wagyu beef sliders, hot chicken sliders and barbacoa tacos; entrees, such as the cheel wings and loaded nachos; salads, like the tea leaf salad; and more.

Per the beer garden's Facebook page, there will be trivia Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.; bingo Sundays from noon to 3 p.m.; two bands playing on Saturdays starting at 3 p.m.; and happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
